Chapter 15 Kill
Chapter 15 Kill
"Peter! Damn it!" Alexei's furious roar followed immediately, "Peter is wounded! Peter is wounded!"
"Rat-a-tat-tat!" Alexei's machine gun roared again, but because he had to cover the wounded Peter, the firepower had lost its accuracy.
"Now."
Lu Ye seemed unable to hear the channel's commotion or Peter's screams.
The moment the enemy fired, Lu Ye accurately pinpointed their location.
Distance: 650 meters.
Wind speed: Light breeze on the left, 2.5 meters per second.
Bullet drop compensation: 2.5 mils.
Lu Ye slowly applied pressure to the trigger with his index finger.
"Bang!" The SVD sniper rifle made a muffled sound, and then the huge recoil hit Lu Ye's shoulder, and the muzzle spat out a dazzling tongue of fire.
A 7.62mm sniper bullet left the barrel at an initial velocity of 830 meters per second, and Lu Ye's eyes were fixed on the scope.
Then he clearly saw something suddenly explode. A cloud of dark red blood mist mixed with brain matter splattered onto the trunk of a dead tree behind him.
"Target cleared." Lu Ye's lips trembled slightly as he uttered these four words into the channel.
In an instant, it felt as if all the strength in my body had been drained.
Lu Ye released the trigger weakly, pressed his cheek against the cold stock of the gun, and breathed in the air mixed with the smell of dirt and gunpowder.
"Kill confirmed?" Dmitry's voice rang out in the channel, tinged with disbelief.
"Confirmed," Lu Ye said, his voice trembling slightly.
Because a system notification sounded in his head.
[Congratulations, host, on successfully counter-killing the enemy sniper!]
[Given the host's outstanding performance, and having unlocked a hidden attribute: Perception]
[Special Reward: +1 Attribute Point, +200 Points]
"Well done! Excellent work, Lu!" Dmitry roared excitedly. "Maxim, Anton! Identify the body immediately. Alexei, bandage Peter's wounds!"
"Peter wasn't hit in the artery, the bullet pierced his right shoulder, he won't die!" Alexei's voice was filled with the relief of surviving a close call.
"Roger that, Captain, we are approaching the target location." Maxim and Anton responded quickly.
Lu Ye slowly stood up from behind the low wall.
His left arm, which had been bruised from dealing with the search team, started bleeding again due to the intense movements, staining his training uniform red, but he seemed oblivious to the pain.
[Warning! Host has taken damage. Current health: 85/100 (decreasing)]
He ignored the system's prompts and, carrying his SVD sniper rifle, walked step by step back to the earthen mound he had just been standing on.
Seryozha still lay there quietly, his blood having seeped into the soil, turning it dark brown.
Lu Ye walked to his side, half-squatted down, and reached out to close Seryozha's eyes.
"Your gun works very well," Lu Ye said in a low voice. "Thank you!"
He removed the identification tag bearing the insignia of the Russian special forces from Seryozha's neck and clutched it tightly in his hand.
"Captain, we've confirmed the target." A few minutes later, Anton's voice came through the earpiece, his tone tinged with shock.
"This guy is a sniper from the Ukrainian Azov Battalion, and we found a piece of encrypted intelligence on him."
"What intelligence?" Dmitri asked.
"I can't understand the intelligence, but the coordinates marked on it indicate our temporary camp location." Anton swallowed hard.
Dmitry paused for a moment, then said, "Anton, from now on, you will call out to the camp continuously!"
As the fighting ceased, the smoke from the battlefield gradually dissipated, leaving behind a pungent smell of sulfur, burnt rubber, and a strong stench of blood.
Maxim and Anton ran back from the rocky beach 600 meters away, both panting heavily.
"Captain, all cleared. That Azov battalion sniper is dead." Maxim casually tossed the enemy sniper rifle into the trunk of the first transport vehicle, his tone tinged with admiration, and glanced at Lu Ye standing on the earthen slope.
Dmitri leaned against the car door, an unlit cigarette between his fingers, his rough face clouded with gloom.
He glanced at Peter, who was being bandaged by Alexei, and only after confirming that the young co-gunner was out of danger did he press the communication button on his headset.
"Everyone, listen to me."
Dmitri's voice rang out on the channel, hoarse and deep, yet exuding an undeniable power.
"Seryozha is dead. He was an excellent special forces soldier, a good brother." Dmitry paused, seemingly clenching his teeth. "On the eastern Uzbekistan battlefield, tears are the most useless thing. We are veterans; from the moment we stepped onto the battlefield, we should have been prepared to be stuffed into body bags at any time!"
The channel was deathly silent, except for Peter's gasps of pain.
"But we can't let him rot alone in the wilderness!" Dmitry suddenly looked up, his eyes blazing. "Get him on the truck! Once we get this damned supply to Cannon Fodder Battalion 17, we'll return to the temporary camp, establish contact, and send Seryozha back to his hometown! I promise you, he'll have a tombstone of his own, instead of becoming a lonely ghost in these ruins!"
"Understood!" the group replied.
Alexei's eyes were red-rimmed; the burly machine gunner's eyes were now bloodshot.
He turned around and strode towards the earthen slope.
Lu Ye stood silently beside Seryozha's body. Although he had not experienced the deep bond that Dmitry and his comrades had developed through years of fighting side by side, Seryozha's dying words of approval, and the still-warm SVD sniper rifle in his hand, weighed heavily on his heart.
"I'll help you."
Lu Ye looked at Alexei who was walking over and said softly, "Thank you!"
The two didn't waste any more words.
Alexei lifted Seryozha's shoulders, and Lu Ye raised his legs. The body had begun to stiffen and appeared exceptionally heavy.
They carefully lifted Seryozha down the slope and loaded him into the back of the first transport vehicle.
The carriage was filled with ammunition boxes and medical supplies. Lu Ye laboriously moved several heavy wooden boxes to make room for a relatively flat space.
Alexei took off his own clothes and placed them under Seryozha's head, then pulled a camouflage net from the corner and gently covered Seryozha's body.
"Brother, get some sleep. I'll wake you when we get home," Alexei mumbled, his voice choked with emotion. He then wiped his face hard, helped Lu Ye with a quick bandage, and jumped out of the car.
Lu Ye sat down next to Seryozha, his gaze falling on the dried bloodstains at the edge of the camouflage net.
He mentally summoned the system panel.
[Lifespan remaining: 15 days and 18 hours]
Available points: 1100
Current Health: 87/100 (Recovering)
"Fifteen days!" Lu Ye gripped the SVD tightly. The cruelty of war far exceeded what he had seen in movies. Bullets here have no eyes; even a veteran as strong as Seryozha could be taken away by a sudden sniper shot.
To survive, one needs not only a system, but also absolute vigilance and strength. The [Perception] attribute he had just activated made him deeply realize the importance of seizing the initiative on the battlefield.
"Set off!"
Dmitri tossed aside the cigarette that remained unlit in his hand and leaped into the passenger seat of the first car.
